6.5 L/100 km · 32.50 L
Fuel Cost Calculator
Estimate what a journey will really cost, split it fairly between passengers, and compare which vehicle is cheaper for the route.
500.0 km · return · 1 trip
Which vehicle costs less in fuel?
41.00 L for this route
250 km × 2 legs × 1 trips
6.5 L/100 km
$1.6 / L
500.00 km × 6.500 L/100 km ÷ 100 = 32.500 L
32.500 L × $1.60/L = $52.00 fuel
$52.00 + $32.00 extras = $84.00 total

One route, every important cost.
Normalize the distance, economy, and pump price, then add the practical costs that determine what each traveller actually pays.
- 01
Enter the route
Add the one-way road distance, choose kilometres or miles, and tell the calculator whether you are returning or repeating the journey.
- 02
Match the vehicle and local price
Use L/100 km, km/L, US MPG, or Imperial MPG for fuel economy, then enter the pump price per litre or gallon.
- 03
Plan the complete trip
Add tolls, parking, or other shared costs, choose the passenger count, and compare the result with a second vehicle if useful.
Use the units you know, get the answer you need.
Metric and imperial inputs
Mix kilometres or miles with four common fuel-economy formats and price per litre, US gallon, or Imperial gallon. Conversion happens transparently underneath.
The whole journey cost
Model return journeys and repeated trips, then include tolls, parking, and other costs so the result is useful beyond the fuel pump.
Fair sharing and comparison
See the cost per passenger and compare two vehicles over exactly the same route and fuel price before deciding who should drive.
Distance, gallons, passengers, and real-world variation.
How is trip fuel cost calculated?+
The calculator converts distance to kilometres, fuel economy to litres per 100 kilometres, and pump price to price per litre. It then multiplies the fuel used by the normalized fuel price.
Should I enter one-way or total distance?+
Enter the one-way road distance. Turn on Return journey to double it, and use Number of trips if the same journey will happen more than once.
What is the difference between US MPG and Imperial MPG?+
The gallon sizes differ. One Imperial gallon is about 4.546 litres, while one US gallon is about 3.785 litres, so the same MPG number does not represent the same efficiency.
Does passenger splitting divide tolls and parking too?+
Yes. Cost per person divides the full trip total (fuel, tolls, parking, and other added costs) equally between the selected number of people.
Why might the real fuel cost differ?+
Traffic, speed, gradients, weather, vehicle load, tyre pressure, detours, idling, and the accuracy of the vehicle’s economy figure can all change real consumption.
Does Toolkit save my route?+
No route or cost input is uploaded or saved. Everything is calculated locally in the current browser tab.
